Research
Most research in the Design Products department is practice-led. It assumes that design (research) implies a genuine newness. The area of concern, common to all Platforms is the interface of art and design with society and the environment, and making design more relevant to the real world. Key questions in project work are its engagement with society. This might be through contribution to contemporary discourse, either through bringing design to a different social context or exploring it in a different context (discipline) or the continued reluctance to accept given categorisations and to find new descriptions and freedom from rigid definitions of design.
