Platform 11
Begun in 2003, Platform 11 is a studio within the Design Products course at the Royal College of Art in London. Currently run by Noam Toran, Onkar Kular and Carey Young, the platform uses design as a medium to address contemporary and speculative issues related to technology, psychology and socio-political trends.

We are going to Tokyo!
Platform 11 is going to Tokyo from March 17-26 and exhibiting in the Trico Galleryfrom March 20-24. Alongside the show, we will be visiting university departments and studios which focus on robotics and otaku culture. The trip has been generously sponsored by the Daiwa Foundation. Platform 11 First Brief:
ENGINEERING EXPERIENCE
Design and build a simulation which triggers a specific experience or emotion in the user/viewer.
The object/space should be in the area of 800mm x 1500mm x 2500mm and should succeed in creating a complete and extreme atmosphere which exposes the user to a personal fear, fantasy, snapshot in time. Use whatever medium necessary to convey the experience: video, sound, smell, movement, vibration, electronics, furry carpeting, lights, colour, etc. etc. The simulations should be fully functional for the interim exhibition. Some things to think about are:
1.Does the work have a real-world context? Is it an intervention, a performance, a service?
2.What constitutes experience? How does one artificially replicate it?
3.Does the project speak of larger systems? Does it make aware something intimate?
4.Is it for a single participant or a group? Is it public or private?
